THe HelicopterThe company that Igor Sikorsky founded, Sikorsky Aircraft, continues to focus on aviation products with advanced technologies and unique designs just like his original helicopters. His creation of the first practical helicopter in 1939 started an brand new industry in the United States that later became a worldwide industry. The helicopter has become an useful part of both residential and military aviation worldwide. Over time it has become the main saver of lives in accidents, disasters and wartime combat situations. Igor Sikorsky imagined this kind of use of the helicopter early in his long career, and it remains as his most important legacy.

The planeSikorsky's fifth plane, the S-5, gained national attention. His sixth, the S-6-A, won him the highest award at the 1912 Moscow Aviation Exhibition, and first prize in a military competition in Petrograd. The success lead to him becoming the head of the aviation division of the Russian Baltic Railroad Car Works. When there, Sikorsky began building the first multi-engine airplane. It was a "Luxurious" passenger plane, which was very revolutionary for its time. This led to him making a series of bomber planes for the russian military.

This is a map and photo of the Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation, where they made the first helicopter. It was the 4th plant location out of six. It is on the Long Island Sound, close to deep water, which was good for the sea planes, and by an airport, making it a perfect area for making planes/helicopters.
